French PM criticizes EU's tariff choices on US goods
French Prime Minister François Bayrou criticized the European Commission for its choice of products in retaliation tariffs against the U.S., including Kentucky bourbon. He argued that the list was outdated and poorly considered. In response to the EU's tariffs on American goods like motorcycles and jeans, former President Trump threatened a 200 percent tariff on French wines and other alcoholic products. Bayrou noted that this could further harm France's cognac sector. The cognac industry is already affected by a separate trade dispute with China, which has launched a probe into European brandy imports. France's Foreign Minister will address this issue during an upcoming trip to China.
