Fresno Zoo hosts Hornbill vs. parrot competition
The Fresno Chaffee Zoo is hosting a fun competition called "Battle of the Birds." This event pits the Hornbill against the parrot to see which habitat can raise the most money. As of Monday, the zoo has gathered over $3,000 in donations. Zoological care specialists are asking for more support to help care for various animals, including birds and mammals. They emphasize the need for enrichment items that enhance the animals' lives. Care for intelligent and colorful parrots is a priority, as the zoo has more than 30 of them. These parrots perform two shows for visitors and serve as ambassadors for their species. In the Hornbill habitat, the zoo cares for two affectionate birds named Nash and Sela. Caretakers believe they might mate soon. Hornbills need mental challenges to keep them stimulated, which includes using their beaks effectively. Zoo officials are continually finding new ways to keep both parrots and Hornbills busy. They note that parrots are demanding pets – they are loud and can chew through almost anything. The competition will end on March 30. Anyone who donates at least $20 to the winning team will gain special access to an exclusive event. Donations can be made through the zoo's website.
