Frewsburg girls basketball wins first state championship
Frewsburg's girls basketball team won their first state championship by beating Stillwater 59-44 in the Class C final. The game took place at Hudson Valley Community College in front of a crowd of over 800 fans. The Bears started strong, quickly taking an 11-4 lead with Teghan Trocki scoring three 3-pointers in the early minutes. They finished the first quarter ahead by eight points, 15-7, thanks to good defense and contributions from Jadyn Trocki and Ava Jimerson. In the second quarter, Frewsburg extended their lead to double digits. Trocki hit another 3-pointer, and the team managed to maintain a comfortable lead, finishing the first half at 30-20. However, a last-minute basket from Stillwater's Addison Thornton gave their fans hope. The third quarter saw Stillwater come within nine points, but Frewsburg quickly regained control. Jadyn Trocki and Ava Jimerson helped keep the momentum going, leading 44-33 by the end of the period. In the final quarter, Frewsburg kept their lead. Despite Stillwater's attempts to close the gap, Frewsburg's performance proved too strong. Coach Sierra Beaver praised her team's ability to quickly learn and execute strategies. Top scorers included Jadyn Trocki with 18 points, and both Ava Jimerson and Teghan Trocki with 15 points each. Frewsburg dominated in assists and rebounds, showing great teamwork throughout the game. The victory was a significant milestone for the players and the program.
