Gabriel Nadeau-Dubois resigns from Québec solidaire leadership

Gabriel Nadeau-Dubois, a key figure in the left-wing Québec solidaire party, has announced his resignation from the party's leadership team. He made this statement today in Montreal. Nadeau-Dubois, 34, gained fame during the 2012 student strike against tuition hikes. He has served as co-spokesperson and House leader. Despite stepping down from these roles, he will remain a member of the legislature for his Montreal district until the next election in October 2026. In recent months, Nadeau-Dubois expressed feeling "worn out" by ongoing internal conflicts within the party. His decision to leave leadership is also influenced by his new responsibilities as a father of two young children. Nadeau-Dubois was first elected in a byelection in 2017 and was re-elected in 2018 and 2022. However, Québec solidaire has faced issues with internal divisions. Last year, some party members publicly criticized him for being too pragmatic. This has contributed to growing tensions within the party.
