Gateway baseball team wins season opener 16-1

Gateway's baseball team kicked off the season in great style with a commanding 16-1 win against North Hills on March 18. This nonsection game showcased strong performances, including Roman Jennings, who had three hits, a double, and two RBIs. Max Cobbs and Ryan Deselich also contributed with two runs each. Jon Saunders, the winning pitcher, added to the offense with two hits, a double, and an RBI. The Gators recorded a total of 12 hits in this four-inning game, marking their first win of the season. In swimming, Hunter Raymer made headlines at the PIAA Class 3A championships held on March 14-15 at Bucknell. He finished 14th in the 200-yard individual medley and climbed to 10th place in the 500 freestyle, setting a new school record with a time of 4:34.19. His brother, Gunner Raymer, also competed, finishing 23rd in the 200 freestyle. The Gateway bocce team achieved a strong third-place finish out of 50 teams at the 2025 Regional Interscholastic Unified Bocce Championships at Geneva College, with a record of 2-1. Looking ahead, the 28th annual Cager Classic is set for April 5 at Highlands High School. This event will feature senior basketball players from several counties. Practice will take place on April 3, and a skills competition will follow on April 4. The main games will start at 5:30 p.m. for girls and 7:30 p.m. for boys on April 5. The event promises fun and competition, with tickets priced at $4 for students and $7 for adults. Organizers hope to create an enjoyable atmosphere, especially as the seniors will get the chance to play alongside former rivals.
