Gatik to enhance autonomous trucks with NVIDIA technology
Gatik has announced plans to use NVIDIA's advanced computing technology in its driverless trucks. This collaboration will help Gatik expand its fleet of class 6 and class 7 Freight-Only vehicles. The companies aim to roll out Level 4 autonomous trucks more widely for major customers like Walmart and Kroger. The CEO of Gatik, Gautam Narang, expressed excitement about this partnership. He noted that NVIDIA's technology will enhance the artificial intelligence needed for safe and efficient operations. Gatik is also working closely with Isuzu North America to support this growth. The key component will be NVIDIA's DRIVE AGX system, powered by the DRIVE Thor chip. This system can perform up to one quadrillion operations per second, making it a powerful tool for developing autonomous trucks. NVIDIA's vice president, Rishi Dhall, highlighted the importance of this technology in addressing challenges faced by the trucking industry, such as high demand and driver shortages. The collaboration aims to create a smarter and more sustainable logistics system. Gatik has been pioneering driverless transportation since 2021 and currently operates over a hundred autonomous trucks in several regions, including Texas and Ontario. The company plans to ramp up production significantly by the end of 2027, coinciding with other companies also preparing to produce autonomous trucks. In addition to Isuzu, Gatik is partnering with Cummins, Ryder, and Goodyear. Their work with NVIDIA and Isuzu marks a crucial step toward making autonomous trucking a widespread reality.
