Gauteng schools halt food sales to protect student health

The Gauteng Department of Education has ordered all schools in the province to stop selling food on or near their premises. This decision follows a rise in foodborne illnesses affecting students. Department spokesperson Steve Mabona cited concerns over recent incidents that have resulted in illness and loss of life among pupils. Schools are now required to monitor food vendors and tuckshops closely. This suspension will remain in effect until further notice as the department seeks to protect student health and well-being.
