Gaza health officials report death toll exceeds 44,000 in ongoing conflict with Israel
Health officials in Gaza report that the death toll from the ongoing war with Israel has exceeded 44,000, with over half identified as women and children. The Israeli military claims to have killed more than 17,000 militants. A rocket fired from Lebanon killed one man and injured two others in northern Israel on Thursday. In response, Israel conducted airstrikes on targets in southern Lebanon, following warnings for residents to evacuate. The conflict began on October 7, 2023, when Hamas militants attacked southern Israel, resulting in around 1,200 deaths and the abduction of 250 people. Approximately 90% of Gaza's population has been displaced due to the fighting.
