GBI investigates Brunswick police shooting of injured teenager
A teenager was injured during an encounter with Brunswick police on Wednesday. He is wanted for his alleged involvement in a recent shooting. Police received a call around 3 p.m. about a shooting at a home on Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard. Witnesses provided a description of the suspect, identified as 18-year-old Larry Labraun Kirkland. Officers found Kirkland nearby and attempted to arrest him. He fled on foot, leading police on a chase that ended in a yard on Wolfe Street. When officers tried to approach him, they noticed he had a gun. One officer used a Taser, while another shot at Kirkland. He was taken to a local hospital but suffered non-life-threatening injuries. No officers were hurt during the incident. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) is looking into the case. Once their investigation is complete, the findings will be sent to the Brunswick Judicial Circuit District Attorney’s Office for review. This marks the 15th officer-involved shooting the GBI has been asked to investigate in 2025.
