Gemini app adds Canvas and Audio Overviews features
The Gemini app has introduced new features called Canvas and Audio Overviews for both Android and iOS users. This update comes with a redesign of the plus menu. The plus menu now displays options like Camera, Gallery, and Files side-by-side. However, the Files feature is not available for iOS users. Below these options, there are shortcuts for Deep Research, which provides detailed answers, and Canvas, which allows users to write documents and code. With the new Deep Research feature, users do not need to select a model manually, as it currently uses the 2.0 Flash Thinking model. Buttons for unavailable features appear grayed out. Additionally, a new button labeled "Files in this chat" has been added to the top-right corner of the app. The mobile version of Canvas does not have a split-pane interface like the desktop version, making it slightly less convenient. While users can open and read drafts, editing requires closing the document and starting a new prompt. Some editing features, like highlighting, are not available in the mobile format, but there are options to preview and browse revisions quickly. The rollout of these new features is happening now, following the earlier launch of Audio Overviews on mobile.
