Gemini app introduces Audio Overview podcasts for mobile users
The Gemini app is launching a new feature called Audio Overviews for users on Android and iOS. This feature allows the app to create podcasts that summarize documents and slideshows. Users have begun to access this capability today. Audio Overviews were already available for free and paid subscribers on the web. They currently support English, with plans to include more languages soon. On mobile devices, users will see a “Generate Audio Overview” option when they upload content. This feature will show next to the “Talk Live about this” option. Once users select the audio overview option, it takes a few minutes for the podcast to generate. Google will notify users when it's ready. Audio Overviews can also be found in chat history on the app's homescreen. One notable aspect of this feature is that the Gemini app does not include its own audio player. Instead, tapping on an Audio Overview opens the file in a web browser. This means users will use their default audio player for playback, unlike the inline player available on the Gemini website. Each Audio Overview podcast can last several minutes. The goal is to summarize the material and connect different topics while offering unique viewpoints. However, these podcasts are based on the uploaded content rather than general knowledge. This differs from the podcasts created from Deep Research reports.
