GenAI smartphones to exceed 400 million shipments in 2025

Shipments of smartphones with generative AI (GenAI) features are set to exceed 400 million units in 2025. This will make up around 30% of the global smartphone market. Last year, GenAI smartphones accounted for 20% of shipments. Counterpoint Research reported that advancements in technology and chip improvements are driving this growth. Manufacturers are adding GenAI features to both flagship and mid-range models. Despite this, consumer interest in GenAI applications remains low. Smartphone makers are looking for more practical uses for AI to increase demand. Chinese brands have started to include GenAI in their flagship models. However, these features may not be available in mid-range and budget models until 2026 or 2027.
