General warns of imminent conflict in Europe
A retired general, Sir Richard Shirreff, has shared his views on how he believes World War III could start in the near future. He warns that the current ceasefire negotiations regarding Ukraine are not meant to create lasting peace, but are a temporary measure that will likely allow Russia to regroup for future conflict. Shirreff compares the situation to historical events, saying that just as Hitler used a peace deal to prepare for war, Russian President Vladimir Putin will use any ceasefire to strengthen his military. He predicts that a major conflict could erupt within two years if proper measures are not taken to deter Russia. The general also criticizes the lack of strong support from the United States, highlighting that President Donald Trump and his administration have offered no military guarantees for Ukraine. Instead, they seem focused on extracting resources from the region rather than assisting in military defense. Shirreff points out that while Western countries, particularly in Europe, are pledging to provide peacekeeping forces in Ukraine, Russia will likely oppose any NATO presence near its borders. He believes that Putin's ongoing tactics include not only military aggression but also disinformation campaigns aimed at destabilizing democracies in Europe. The retired general urges European nations to prepare for unconventional warfare, including cyberattacks and sabotage, as tensions with Russia continue to rise. He emphasizes that tens of millions of lives could be at stake if Europe does not bolster its defenses quickly. Finally, Shirreff calls for urgent action, stating that Europe needs to prioritize its defense preparations. He believes that if the West fails to act decisively, it could lead to devastating consequences, including the possibility of nuclear conflict.
