Genesee County plans three new bridges, Clio Road reconstruction
Genesee County is starting its summer construction season with several major projects. The county has seven construction jobs planned, costing more than $1 million each. A total of $6 million is set aside to remove and replace three old bridges. The busiest project involves the Baldwin Road bridge over Swartz Creek. This bridge, built in 1938, is currently detouring traffic. Two other bridges, the North Road bridge over the Shiawassee River and the Center Road bridge over Thread Creek, are also being replaced. Both were built in the late 1920s and are in poor condition. Among the biggest projects is the rebuilding of Clio Road in Mt. Morris Township. This will reduce the road from four lanes to three over a one-mile stretch, costing over $3 million. Road Commission Director Alexander Patsy called Clio Road one of the worst in the county. Other projects include paving Green Road in Atlas Township, resurfacing Lahring Road in Fenton Township, and repairs on Fenton Road and Seymour Road in Gaines Township. The Fenton Road work is particularly significant as it spans over three miles. Some parts of this road haven't been fixed since 2006. Additionally, there are plans to spend over $11 million on local subdivision projects. The largest is a $4.5 million project in the Wishing Well subdivision in Grand Blanc Township. Gas service lines will be lowered before the roadwork begins. Other subdivision projects include Orchard Haven and Apple Hill Estates, costing $3.6 million and $1.4 million, respectively.
