George Mason band supports women's basketball in Baton Rouge
The Green Machine, George Mason University's famous pep band, traveled to Baton Rouge to support the women's basketball team. They are making their first NCAA Tournament appearance against Florida State on Saturday. As fans entered the Pete Maravich Assembly Center, they were welcomed by lively music from the Green Machine. This band is known for its incredible musical talent, which includes a unique vocals section. Bobby Lacy II, the associate director, helped start the vocal section to keep the tradition alive. The Green Machine is recognized as the No. 1 pep band in the NCAA. They have a diverse group of members, with only about 10% being music majors. Vocalist Grace Killius, who has been in the band for four years, noted the mix of majors among members. Throughout the tournament, the band has been active on LSU’s campus. They performed concerts to boost morale and excitement for the game. Before the matchup, they gave fans an energetic show outside the arena. The Green Machine has performed worldwide, including at the White House and in South Korea. Their presence in Baton Rouge highlights the strong bond between George Mason’s sports teams and their passionate student body. They will continue to cheer on the women's basketball team as they make history in March Madness.
