Georgescu's campaign in Romania mirrors Russian tactics, declassified documents reveal

Romania's presidential candidate Călin Georgescu is linked to a campaign using social media influencers, according to newly released documents. These influencers promoted an "ideal candidate" profile on platforms like TikTok and Instagram, closely resembling Georgescu. The documents reveal that influencers were paid around €80 per post to share content that generated significant views. A Romanian cryptocurrency worker reportedly paid $381,000 to TikTok users promoting Georgescu before the election. This campaign strategy mirrors tactics used in Moldova, where a pro-Russia candidate was supported. Similar methods were also employed by Russia in Ukraine prior to its invasion.
