President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has appointed Geraldine Faith Econg as the new presiding justice of the Sandiganbayan, the Philippines' antigraft court. This appointment, dated January 7, follows the retirement of Amparo Cabotaje-Tang on November 9, 2024. Econg replaces Cabotaje-Tang, who served since October 2013. Econg has been with the Sandiganbayan since January 2016 and previously chaired its Second Division. Econg's judicial career includes roles as presiding judge in Cebu's municipal and regional trial courts. She is set to retire from the Sandiganbayan on August 6, 2037.
