Germany aims for semi-finals against Italy in Dortmund
Germany is excited about their upcoming match against Italy in the Nations League. Goalkeeper Oliver Baumann mentioned that the team's recent success at Euro 2024 has boosted their spirits. They won the first leg of the quarter-final 2-1 in Milan and are hopeful of advancing to the semi-finals. Baumann highlighted the importance of their home stadium, Westfalenstadion in Dortmund, which can seat 82,000 fans. He believes the crowd will give them a strong advantage. The stadium has a history of being challenging for opposing teams. Germany's coach, Julian Nagelsmann, is focused on the present. He wants the team to make its own history, rather than dwell on past matches, including Italy's victory over Germany in the 2006 World Cup. He confirmed that they will treat the match as if it’s starting from scratch. Despite having a strong performance in the first leg, Nagelsmann stated the team would play aggressively rather than playing defensively. He also mentioned that their injured goalie, Marc-Andre ter Stegen, is still their first choice and will return once fit. Additionally, striker Jonathan Burkardt may miss the game due to illness.
