Germany prepares for early elections after coalition collapse
Germany is preparing for early elections after the collapse of the ruling coalition, known as the traffic-light coalition. Chancellor Olaf Scholz plans to lead a minority government with the Social Democrats and Greens until a confidence vote, which he has scheduled for January 15. The opposition, led by the Christian Democratic Union, is pushing for immediate action, claiming the government lacks a majority. Three of four ministers from the Free Democrats have resigned, while the remaining minister has left the party to stay in office. Despite the political turmoil, Scholz aims to continue with key legislative initiatives, including tax relief and reforms in immigration and pension policies. The Bundestag's final session of the year is set for December 20.
