Ghana celebrates 100 years since the return of King Prempeh I from British exile

Ghana recently celebrated the 100th anniversary of the return of King Prempeh I, who was exiled by the British to Seychelles in 1896. The event took place in Kumasi, where a large crowd honored his legacy and resilience against colonial rule. During the celebrations, current Asantehene Osei Tutu II led a procession, highlighting the enduring Asante culture. Seychelles' President Wavel Ramkalawan attended, reflecting on the historical ties between the Asante people and Seychelles, where many exiled Asante lived. Prempeh's exile significantly impacted both regions, fostering connections that continue today. His descendants, including Princess Mary Prempeh Marimba, attended the event, celebrating their heritage and family ties that span across Ghana and Seychelles.
