Ghost stories emerge from Brown County's first murder nearly 200 years later
In February 1832, 2nd Lt. Amos Foster was shot and killed by Private Patrick Doyle at Fort Howard in Green Bay, Wisconsin. This incident marked one of the earliest murder trials in the area. Doyle was later tried and executed. Today, staff at Heritage Hill State Park, where Fort Howard is located, believe Foster's spirit may still linger. Reports of unexplained activity, such as electromagnetic disturbances, have been noted in the area. The coat Foster wore on the night of his death is displayed at the Neville Public Museum. Park employees suggest that Foster's spirit watches over the site rather than haunting it.
