Gibbons teams with Lees for Golden Smile at Taree
Andrew Gibbons, a jockey, is preparing for a busy day at Taree after winning a key race at Kembla Grange. On Saturday, he rode a horse named Imposant, which was trained by Kris Lees, to victory in the Provincial-Midway Championships Qualifier. At Taree on Tuesday, Gibbons will have six rides, including one on a horse named Golden Smile. This horse is trained by Lees and is making its next appearance in the Gloucester Cup Day Maiden Plate. Golden Smile, imported from the UK, recently finished third at Newcastle. Gibbons believes the horse is improving and that the longer distance at Taree will benefit it. Gibbons will start the day at Taree with a ride on Doncaster Avenue, a horse he previously rode. He thinks Doncaster Avenue has shown improvement and is ready for the upcoming race. Gibbons will also ride Wandjad, a last-start winner at Taree, in a higher-grade race. Additionally, Gibbons has three more rides at Taree. These include two horses trained by Mark Howard and one named Spring Eagle for another trainer. Separately, there were just 12 nominations for the prestigious Vinery Stud Stakes on Saturday, where a top filly named Treasurethe Moment is expected to perform well. The stakes race will be her first challenge outside of Victoria. Dylan Gibbons, also a jockey, returned to racing recently after a shoulder injury. He has already had two second-place finishes and is looking to participate in more major races soon. He is able to ride at a lower weight, which could help him secure more opportunities.
