Glasgow to host scaled-down 2026 Commonwealth Games without hockey, squash, and diving

Hockey, squash, and diving will not be part of the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow. The event will feature ten sports, including athletics and swimming, with integrated para events in six of them. The Games will take place from July 23 to August 2, 2026, across four venues. This marks a significant reduction in sports compared to the 2022 Games in Birmingham, which included triathlon and rugby sevens. Glasgow's hosting aims to minimize costs and environmental impact while enhancing social benefits. The Commonwealth Games Federation confirmed that the event will not require public funding and is expected to bring £100 million in investment to the city.
