Global environmental summits set to address biodiversity and climate challenges

The United Nations will host four major environmental summits in the coming months, starting with a biodiversity conference in Cali, Colombia, from October 21 to November 1. This session will review progress since the last summit, which aimed to protect 30% of the planet by 2030. Following this, the climate change conference, COP29, will take place in Azerbaijan from November 11 to 22. This summit will focus on climate finance, with developing countries seeking more support than the previously pledged $100 billion. In December, a conference on desertification will be held in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, addressing land degradation and drought management. Lastly, a session in South Korea starting November 25 will work towards a treaty on plastic pollution, with differing views on production and recycling strategies.
