Global plastic treaty negotiations end without agreement in South Korea
Negotiations for a global plastic treaty ended without agreement in Busan, South Korea. The chair of the talks stated that unresolved issues require more time for consensus. In 2022, nations agreed to develop rules to reduce plastic pollution by the end of 2024. However, a second revised treaty text failed to gain support among the over 170 participating countries. The chair, Luis Vayas Valdivieso, noted that while some parts of the text were agreed upon, critical issues remain. Further discussions will continue based on the same treaty framework.
