Trust in digital services has dropped significantly around the world, according to a new report by Thales. The 2025 Digital Trust Index revealed that many consumers are worried about how their personal information is handled. The survey included 14,000 people and showed that banking is the most trusted industry for data sharing, with only 44% of consumers feeling secure. Government and healthcare follow close behind, with trust rates of 41% and 40% respectively. This is surprising given the recent data breaches in the healthcare sector. Trust levels for other industries are much lower. Insurance companies have an approval rate of just 24%. Social media and news organizations scored the lowest, with only 4% and 3% trust ratings. These numbers highlight a widespread lack of confidence in data security within these sectors. The report also found a clear divide between younger and older consumers. About 51% of individuals over 55 expressed trust, while only 32% of Gen Z felt the same way. Cybersecurity threats are growing, and many websites reportedly share personal data without consent. Sebastien Cano from Thales noted that trust in digital services is declining or stable at best, even in regulated industries. He emphasized the need for brands to improve their security measures to regain consumer confidence.
