Gmail introduces Gemini AI for smarter email replies

Gmail is introducing a new AI tool called Gemini to help users write better work emails. This feature, known as "contextual smart replies," will be available for Google Workspace Business and Enterprise users. With contextual smart replies, Gmail will suggest pre-written responses based on the entire email thread. The Gemini AI analyzes the context of the conversation to offer more precise replies, making it easier to express your thoughts. Users will see several response options when they start replying to an email. They can hover over these options to quickly preview the text. Once a suggestion is chosen, it can be sent right away or edited further if needed. This tool is included in various Google Workspace plans, with no additional purchase required for the Gemini add-on. It aims to save time for busy professionals who may struggle to find the right words. The launch of contextual smart replies follows the introduction of smart replies in September 2024, which also provided pre-written responses. Additionally, Gmail recently rolled out a smarter search function to improve how users find emails, prioritizing relevance over a simple chronological order. Gmail continues to be the leading email service, but competition is increasing as more features and tools are developed.
