The Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) has awarded a tender worth ₹8.25 crore to upgrade a 5.5 km section of the Southern Peripheral Road (SPR). This stretch runs from Vatika Chowk to NH-48 near Kherki Daula. Currently in poor condition, the road will be re-laid to handle traffic for another two years. Work on the road is expected to begin next week. The contractor has been instructed to mobilize manpower and equipment as soon as possible. GMDA officials noted that five companies submitted bids for the project. The final contract went to a company that agreed to a price 15% below the reserve amount. In addition to the road upgrade, GMDA plans to hire a consultant for an elevated road project along the same route. The consultant is expected to present a report within three months to start that work. Arun Dhankhar, GMDA's chief engineer, stated that the road work will commence within a week. He emphasized that the upgrades will improve vehicle movement and help reduce traffic jams. The road is vital, as it connects several key routes and serves thousands of vehicles each day. The traffic has increased significantly due to the influx of approximately 20,000 families moving into nearby new condominiums.
