GMDA plans 110-foot pedestrian bridge in Gurugram
The Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) plans to install a 110-feet steel foot overbridge (FOB) in Narsinghpur village on NH 48. Officials stated that the bridge structure is already on-site and they are waiting for permission from traffic police to begin installation. The installation is expected to take about nine hours on both sides of the highway. The bridge, costing ₹ 1.6 crore, aims to help residents cross the busy Delhi-Jaipur highway more safely. RD Singhal, GMDA's general manager of mobility, noted that the FOB will assist thousands of people living near the highway and reduce incidents of jaywalking. The installation was initially planned for Sunday but was postponed because a senior union minister was visiting the area. This forced officials to temporarily halt traffic closure and diversion needed for the work. Local resident Subash Pradhan highlighted that Narsinghpur has a population of around 50,000, with the village split by the highway. Many people often try to cross the road by jumping over the grill, which has led to accidents. He believes the new FOB will significantly improve safety for both locals and commuters. GMDA officials pointed out that the district road safety committee recommended the construction of the FOB due to an increase in accidents. Singhal added that more FOBs are planned for busy areas within the city to enhance pedestrian safety and decrease accidents.
