Goa officials investigate illegal construction at Candolim beach

timesofindia.indiatimes.com

Officials from the Goa Coastal Zone Management Authority (GCZMA) visited Candolim beach on Wednesday to look into a reported illegal construction. This construction is allegedly taking place in a no-development zone, specifically in the CRZ 1A area at Dando beach. The structure being built is linked to a media and entertainment company. A local group, the Calangute Constituency Forum (CCF), filed a complaint claiming this construction is against the law. They argue it is harming protected sand dunes and beach vegetation. GCZMA officials stated they will prepare a report for their member-secretary. CCF member Agnelo Barreto spoke to reporters after the inspection. He expressed concern that the construction is too close to the sea, just 30 meters from the water. He urged the government to act quickly to demolish the structure and impose fines. The CCF has filed multiple complaints and indicated the issue is already under review in the high court. If no action is taken after this inspection, they plan to pursue legal action again.
