Goa Police launches 'SpotTheScam' tool to fight cybercrime
Goa Police are taking action against cybercrime with a new tool called 'SpotTheScam.' They developed this solution in partnership with BITS Pilani, Goa campus. The tool helps people identify fake websites for hotels and other services to prevent online fraud. Superintendent of Police Rahul Gupta explained that 'SpotTheScam' will check websites before users make payments. It can also detect harmful APK files shared on platforms like Telegram and WhatsApp. This is to protect citizens from hackers looking to access personal information. The tool uses advanced technology like artificial intelligence and machine learning. It analyzes website details, checks SSL certificates, and looks for suspicious ads. The system can even compare customer service information with a fraud database. During testing, over 70 fraudulent websites were identified and reported for blocking. In addition to 'SpotTheScam,' Goa Police have created a radical content analyser. This tool monitors videos and online content for extreme views. They have tested more than 170 videos from various sources to help prevent the spread of extremist propaganda. Overall, Goa Police are improving their technology to fight cybercrime and connect better with the community. They are using several digital tools to enhance their operations, making them one of the leading law enforcement agencies in the country.
