Goa seeks uniform policy for anganwadi centres

The Minister of Women and Child Development in Goa, Vishwajit Rane, stated on Monday that the government needs to create a clear policy for anganwadi centres. Currently, there are 1,292 anganwadi centres in the state. Rane emphasized the importance of constructing these centres based on a uniform model, rather than renting spaces. He urged local MLAs to find suitable land in their areas for building these centres. Rane explained that maintaining anganwadi centres in rented locations is challenging. He believes cluster-based anganwadi centres would provide better services and consistency across the state. Rane also discussed the funding for anganwadi workers, who currently receive an honorarium of Rs 4,500, while helpers earn Rs 2,250 monthly. This funding comes from a mix of central and state government support. The state additionally provides more pay depending on the years of service. In response, Fatorda MLA Vijai Sardesai noted that anganwadi workers in states like Kerala and Delhi earn higher honorariums. He urged the government to consider increasing the pay for anganwadi employees in Goa as well.
