Goldin Finance 117 is world's tallest abandoned building
Goldin Finance 117, located in Tianjin, China, is now recognized as the world's tallest abandoned building. It stands at 1,957 feet (596 meters) tall. The skyscraper was originally planned to enhance the Tianjin skyline and became a hallmark of the Goldin Metropolitan project. Construction on Goldin Finance 117 began in 2008, and the building reached its maximum height in 2015. However, the project faced financial challenges and was halted indefinitely in 2020. It was backed by billionaire Pan Sutong, aiming to position Tianjin as a major financial center. The skyscraper was intended to have 128 floors, with significant space for hotels and commercial use. Plans included the world’s highest observation deck, a swimming pool, a restaurant, and a sky bar. If completed, it would have ranked as the fifth tallest building globally. Due to issues with abandoned projects like Goldin Finance 117, China’s government imposed a ban on buildings taller than 500 meters (1,640 feet) in 2021. The country is known for having the highest number of tall buildings, but new regulations now limit construction above 250 meters (1,148 feet). Goldin Finance 117 is likely to remain the last skyscraper in China over the 500-meter height limit.
