Good Hope Hospital must enhance its surgery services
Good Hope Hospital has received a warning from the Care Quality Commission (CQC) about its surgery services. The CQC says these services need improvement. Charlotte Rudge, the interim deputy director for the Midlands, stated the warning is meant to encourage positive changes. She mentioned issues like delays for patients returning from surgeries and cancellations due to a shortage of available beds. The CQC found that the hospital does not always manage safety incidents properly. This means lessons are not always learned to prevent similar issues in the future. Inspectors also noted that not all staff received training on important equipment, and there were not enough workers to ensure patient safety. Despite these problems, the CQC said there are systems in place to protect patients from harm and abuse. Medicines are given according to policy. Ms. Rudge mentioned that many patients reported receiving kind and considerate care from staff. A spokesperson from the CQC apologized for a delay in releasing the report. They explained the delay was due to a large transformation program. However, they assured that immediate actions to ensure patient safety were not affected by this delay.
