Google and Samsung launch Android XR headset to challenge Apple and Meta
Google and Samsung have launched a new mixed-reality headset and operating system called Android XR, aiming to compete with Apple and Meta. This initiative includes a Samsung-built headset, code-named Project Moohan, designed for various augmented and virtual reality applications. The Android XR system allows multiple companies to create their own XR devices, leveraging advanced AI features. The Samsung headset is lighter and more comfortable than Apple's Vision Pro, with a larger field of view and interchangeable battery packs. Google's prototypes for smart glasses, part of Project Astra, utilize microLED technology and AI for tasks like navigation. The first Samsung headset is expected to be available next year, with pricing anticipated to be lower than the Vision Pro's $3,499.
