Google unveils Android XR to enhance virtual and augmented reality experiences
Google has announced Android XR, a new version of its operating system designed specifically for virtual reality (VR) headsets and augmented reality (AR) smart glasses. This marks Google's first major OS development since 2017, aiming to unify XR experiences across various devices. Samsung is set to launch the first Android XR device, a VR headset called Project Moohan, in 2025. Other companies, including Qualcomm and Sony, are also developing hardware for Android XR, which Google hopes will support a wide range of applications from gaming to healthcare. Android XR will feature advanced AI interactions, allowing users to control apps through voice and gestures. Smart glasses are also in development, focusing on lifestyle applications, with Google planning real-world testing of prototype glasses soon.
