Gothenburg Opera presents a new interpretation of "Peter Grimes."
Gothenburg Opera has launched a new production of Benjamin Britten's "Peter Grimes," directed by Netia Jones. This version shifts from the original East Anglian setting to a fictional island community off Sweden's west coast, emphasizing a harsh maritime reality. Jones's staging features weathered costumes and realistic scenes of fishing, enhancing the opera's psychological horror. The use of video projections and a minimal set design creates a striking atmosphere, while the cast delivers powerful performances, particularly in the title role. The production, which opened last weekend, has been well-received for its emotional depth and innovative approach. It runs at Gothenburg Opera House until April 1.
