Grace Fu engages with Hong Kah North residents before elections
Minister Grace Fu, who serves as the Member of Parliament for Yuhua SMC, is preparing for upcoming elections by getting to know residents in the Hong Kah North area. This region is part of the newly created Jurong East-Bukit Batok GRC, which combines areas from other constituencies. Speaking on a podcast, Fu mentioned that she is familiar with most of the wards in the new GRC but is less acquainted with Hong Kah North. She plans to learn about local issues, find hawker centres, and understand community needs in the coming weeks. Recent electoral boundary changes revealed a decrease in Yuhua's voter count, prompting some of its parts to be included in the Jurong East-Bukit Batok GRC. Fu explained that the goal is to better manage resources and services for growing nearby towns like Tengah and Bukit Batok West. Fu also addressed concerns from residents about the boundary changes and assured them that the transition will be smooth. Continuity is important to maintain ongoing programs as her constituency is restructured. The minister discussed climate change's impact on elections, noting that Singapore has decided to invest in infrastructure to address environmental challenges. She believes Singapore is well-prepared for potential climate-related issues and that these topics might not heavily feature in the upcoming vote. Fu shared her thoughts on being a woman in politics, noting that scrutiny regarding her appearance has lessened over time, though female politicians still face different standards compared to their male counterparts. She concluded that while acceptance has grown, there remains a focus on how women present themselves in public life.
