Graft accused threatens mother of Punjab power official

Police in Punjab have filed a report against a contractor accused of corruption and his accomplices for threatening the mother of a senior official. The official, Munish Garg, had conducted an inquiry into the contractor, Harjinder Singh, over financial mismanagement. Deputy Superintendent of Police Sukhdev Singh confirmed that a First Information Report (FIR) was registered against Singh and 3-4 unidentified men. The FIR includes serious charges under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). No arrests have been made yet, and police are actively searching for the suspects. Garg reported that the incident occurred while his 75-year-old mother, Raksha Devi, was in an official car on her way to his office. Harjinder Singh and his men stopped the vehicle and threatened her with violence. Garg said they verbally abused his mother and threatened to harm him. According to Garg, the threats were a reaction to his investigation, which uncovered significant financial irregularities linked to Singh's firm. Three officials were suspended as a result of that inquiry. Garg expressed concern for his mother’s wellbeing, describing her as terrified and shaken after the confrontation.
