Grand Rapids police conducting firearms training, expect gunshots

Grand Rapids residents may hear gunshots over the next two weeks. The Grand Rapids Police Department (GRPD) is conducting its firearms training at a training range. The training began on March 17 and will continue until April 1. Officers will be at the range from Monday to Thursday, between 8 a.m. and 1 p.m. and 6 p.m. and 10 p.m. The police department wants residents to understand that the sounds of gunfire are part of their training. They noted that in previous years, the sounds have led to emergency calls, so they are informing the public this time. If anyone hears gunshots during the training and feels concerned, the GRPD encourages them to call 911. The safety and peace of mind of the community are a priority for the police.
