Grant Bradburn fined for discriminatory remarks in cricket
Grant Bradburn, the former head coach of Pakistan's cricket team, has been fined for discriminatory behavior while coaching Glamorgan, a Welsh cricket club. He has been warned about his future conduct as part of the penalties. An investigation by the Cricket Discipline Commission found that Bradburn made several inappropriate comments. He admitted to making remarks that were considered racist and sexist. The commission ruled that he must attend an educational course and pay a fine of £500, which is about $648. One serious allegation against him involved asking players of Asian descent about their “real age,” suggesting that they were not truthful about it. Additionally, during a pre-season meeting, he made a comment implying that cricket selections in Pakistan could be random, like picking names out of a hat or choosing friends and relatives. Another incident noted was when he criticized male players for a lack of intensity by saying, “this isn’t Western Storm,” referencing a former women’s team and remarking they were “throwing like girls.” Bradburn, a 58-year-old former cricketer from New Zealand, has had a varied coaching career. He previously coached Scotland from 2014 to 2018 and served briefly as Pakistan's head coach in 2023 before joining Glamorgan in January 2024. He was dismissed from Glamorgan in December after the investigation concluded.
