Greater Noida woman dies from rabies after milk consumption
A woman in Greater Noida, Uttar Pradesh, has died from rabies after drinking cow milk. Reports say that the cow had contracted rabies after being bitten by a stray dog. The woman developed symptoms shortly after consuming the milk. The family did not realize the cow was infected at first. Even when the cow showed signs of illness, they did not seek medical help. They took her to several hospitals, but she was turned away. Doctors eventually told her family to take her home, where she died shortly after. The cow had a calf two months before the incident, and its milk was regularly consumed by the family and villagers. After learning about the rabies infection, at least ten others from the village sought vaccinations. Rabies is a deadly virus that affects the nervous system. It spreads through the saliva of infected animals, not just through bites. Reports indicate that milk from rabid animals can carry the virus, especially if not boiled. Drinking unboiled milk from such animals is considered risky. Symptoms of rabies can take time to appear and may start mild, resembling the flu. Common early signs include fever, headache, and weakness. Once severe symptoms show, the infection is often untreatable, and death can follow soon after.
