Greene investigates U.S. Agency for Global Media corruption
Marjorie Taylor Greene, a Republican Congresswoman from Georgia, is leading an investigation into the U.S. Agency for Global Media (USAGM). She claims the agency has been involved in "gross negligence" and "rampant cronyism." Greene argues that these issues pose a significant threat to national security. USAGM is a government-funded media organization that manages several outlets, including Voice of America. The agency has often been run by individuals with backgrounds in traditional media. Greene referred to a 2020 investigation by an independent law firm that confirmed allegations of severe mismanagement and corruption at USAGM. Kari Lake, a senior advisor from the Trump administration, previously criticized USAGM, calling it "not salvageable." She stated that the agency is a financial burden to taxpayers. Last week, former President Trump signed an order to dismantle the agency along with six others. Before shutting down USAGM completely, Greene is demanding access to important records from the agency. She believes this is necessary to investigate allegations of corruption and mismanagement, including improper visa grants and conflicts of interest involving contracts. Greene expressed concern that many individuals involved in the misconduct were rehired under the Biden administration after being fired during Trump's presidency. She considers this decision both an insult to taxpayers and a direct threat to national security. The Congresswoman's office stated that USAGM has engaged in corrupt practices and obstructed investigations. Greene is determined to hold those responsible for the agency's failures accountable and ensure transparency.
