Greenland's leader asserts island is not for sale after Trump's comments on U.S. ownership
Greenland's Prime Minister Múte Egede stated that the island is "not for sale" after President-elect Donald Trump suggested U.S. ownership for national security reasons. Greenland is a self-governing territory of Denmark with over 50,000 residents. Trump's comments echo previous suggestions from 2019 about purchasing Greenland. Egede emphasized the importance of Greenland's autonomy and freedom in his response. In addition, Trump hinted at U.S. control over the Panama Canal, which is owned by Panama. Panama's President reaffirmed that the canal belongs to Panama, following Trump's remarks.
