She noted that after working at CNN and Fox News, where she never faced such restrictions, the attempt from MSNBC caught her off guard. Van Susteren said, "I almost thought they were joking." She suggested that her long career in journalism made it unexpected for her to be told how to present her stories. Van Susteren's time at MSNBC was brief. She hosted a show for about six months in 2017 before leaving. Following that, she joined Newsmax in 2022. Her comments come amid changes at MSNBC, including the cancellation of several shows as the network tries to improve its ratings, which have dropped significantly. MSNBC has faced scrutiny due to its coverage, especially concerning past claims about collusion involving former President Trump's campaign and Russia. The network is undergoing a restructuring after a major decline in viewership following the 2024 election.
