GRÓ Studios and Three River Fiction co-produce "Reyna."
GRÓ Studios from the Faroe Islands and Three River Fiction from the UK are collaborating on a new crime thriller series called "Reyna." This series will be showcased at Series Mania next week. It was created by UK writer Chris Ould and tells the story of a British detective named Jan Reyna. He is drawn back to the Faroe Islands because of his family connections. "Reyna" is described as a Nordic noir crime thriller with a distinctive British-Faroese perspective. The story will explore themes like identity, genealogy, biotech, and generational trauma while incorporating classic thriller elements. Details about the plot remain limited, and casting news will be announced later. Three River Fiction is recognized for its work on the drama series "Dead and Buried," while GRÓ Studios is led by Torfinnur Jákupsson and Jón Hammer. The teams hope to secure more funding, production partners, and international distribution during Series Mania. Jákupsson has also set up a UK production company called Red Herring Story, which aims to enhance collaboration in the North Atlantic region. He previously created "Trom," a Faroese crime show that gained popularity in Europe. He believes that "Reyna" will offer a fresh take on Nordic noir storytelling. Benjamin McGrath, co-creator and executive producer at Three River Fiction, praised the natural beauty of the Faroe Islands and its storytelling potential. He emphasized that "Reyna" will delve into complex themes of genealogy and self-discovery while still being a gripping crime thriller.
