Grousbeck says one arena suffices in Boston
Wyc Grousbeck, the outgoing majority owner of the Boston Celtics, recently discussed the future of the team's arena. He hinted that there is a possibility of a new arena but emphasized that it would likely be a shared venue with the Boston Bruins, who also play at TD Garden. The Celtics' current lease at the Garden runs until 2036, and Grousbeck noted that the team currently does not gain revenue from events held there. Grousbeck spoke about his long partnership with the Jacobs family, who own the Bruins and TD Garden. He highlighted the success the team has achieved and emphasized that there is only enough demand for one arena in Boston. While there have been significant renovations to TD Garden, he stressed that if a new arena were to be built, it would be a joint effort between both teams. The future of the Celtics may depend more on their new owner, William Chisholm. He has agreed to buy the team for $6.1 billion and plans to retain Grousbeck as CEO through the 2027-28 season. In a recent interview, Chisholm expressed that he hasn't focused much on the idea of a new arena yet, recognizing the importance of the current location's history. Grousbeck remains confident about the team’s relationship with TD Garden. He underscored the quality of the Celtics' practice facility, stating it is one of the best in the NBA. He assured fans that there are no immediate plans to leave TD Garden and that the current arrangement is satisfactory.
