The Gujarat government has collected Rs 33.98 crore in liquor taxes over the past two years from 28 hotels in Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar. This was revealed during a Budget Session inquiry by Congress MLA Imran Khedawala. Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel reported that 22 hotels in Ahmedabad and six in Gandhinagar hold permits to sell liquor. The tax revenue was Rs 14.45 crore in 2023 and Rs 19.53 crore in 2024. Gujarat remains a 'dry' state, with strict government regulation on liquor sales. No permits have been canceled in the last two years.
