Gulabi Gang protests in Uttar Pradesh over dowry murder
In Uttar Pradesh's Fatehpur district, a large protest took place after a married woman was allegedly murdered over dowry demands. The victim, Roshni Devi, went missing on March 13. Her family found her body later in a mortuary. Roshni's mother, Rekha Devi, criticized the police for not helping during the search for her daughter. She claimed the accused family members are still free. The police have filed a case against four individuals, including Roshni's husband, but no arrests have been made, leading to public outrage. Members of the Gulabi Gang, a women's rights group, joined the protest and entered the Radhanagar police station. Hemlata Patel, a group leader, accused the police of inaction. She stated, “Roshni was beaten to death, yet the police have not arrested anyone. We demand justice.” The police report that the husband has suffered serious injuries after being attacked by a mob. He is reportedly losing his eyesight due to these injuries. Authorities promise that efforts will be made to arrest all those involved in the case soon.
