Gulbarga hospital power outage disrupts patient care

Kalaburagi: An important issue arose recently at the Gulbarga Institute of Medical Sciences (GIMS) when a power outage affected patients in critical care. The outage occurred on Saturday evening, causing fluctuations in the oxygen supply for patients in the ICU and emergency care units. Videos showing the situation began circulating on social media, showing staff using manual hand pumps to supply oxygen, as the backup batteries failed. This shortage of oxygen put patients with lung problems and cancer at serious risk. Post-operative patients in the observation ward were also in distress during this time. Local residents and families of patients criticized the hospital management harshly after the incident. They have called for a formal complaint to be made and for immediate corrective actions to take place. Dr. Umesh SR, the director of GIMS, explained that the power failure led to the disruption. He stated that the issue was resolved and all operations have since returned to normal.
